Some Quick Notes
1. My Colts have been hit by the injury bug and I'm very worried about what we will look like at the start of the post season.
2. I assume quite a few of you who read my blog watch college basketball, lookout for Eric "EJ" Gordon this year. He should be a monster in the B10 this year. It's amazing how good our AAU team was a couple years ago...
PG - Me ( Memphis Grizzlies )
SG- Eric Gordon
SF- Daequan Cook ( Miami Heat)
PF- Josh Mcroberts ( Portland Trailblazers)
C-- Greg Oden ( Portland Trailblazers)
I gotta give a shout out to my man Grayson ( Gardner-Webb) for going into Rupp and dropping 22 on the Wildcats. He also played on my AAU team.
If any of you have any specific questions you want to ask about NBA or college leave them in replies and I will answer them in a couple days.

Hey Mike,
Do you ever think what could have happened if you, Greg, and Daequan came back? That would have been a guaranteed national championship in my opinion. Good luck with the Grizzlies! -
1, 2, maybe 3 national championships!! WE would be talkin Dynasty!!
-
Its tough to win a title in college with the 1 and done format but we would have been the favorites.
-
What's it like being teammates with guys (Damon and Kyle) and also competing for playing time with them?
Good luck and go Grizzlies! -
It's tough but honestly I think everyone in the NBA has/had to deal with that. The first thing rookies learn in the NBA is that its a business.
-
From undefeated to possibly missing out on a first round bye. I actually think the loss to the pats and all of the injuries are a good thing. It takes the pressure off of them.
-
Sup Conley, I have a question. When you were playing college basketball, did you have a favorite team from the NBA? If so, who?
-
Actually I didn't follow the NBA that much while I was playing in college. I didn't have a favorite team but their were certain players I liked to watch.
-
Props for responding to my questions Conley.
-
Thanks for asking us for our questions.
I imagine your AAU team was filled with Indiana boys that showed promise as young as 6 years old, and who had major outside influences put you guys in this sort of royal company. Who were the people that helped you get here today, aside from obviously yourself, your parents, Coaches Keeler and Mata, and that insane roster of kids you played summerball with?
Are you familiar with the term "Convery belt?" You rode the conveyor belt on your way up to the NBA, and I'm wondering how you feel about all those situations where young kids are taken in, used up and spit out if they can't hit a jumper or dunk at 14? -
I never felt that way about AAU basketball because most of our players played other sports. Once they got to the point scholarship offers came in then they decided if they would continue to play. One of my friends who played on my AAU team actually got drafted by the Chicago WhiteSox while in HS so he decided to go that route.

What is the quality of girls waiting back at the hotel scale of 1-10.
What are some of the things you have spent your pay check on so far besides, the crib, and range ?
Whats your dream, that you gonna hold out on ?
You thinking about starting a foundation of any type, or team up with greg and josh on something ? -
I also play point guard on my team in middle school and i'm short.
What are some good drills for my ball handling and shooting?
But dayum! your AAU team was loaded! -
Shooting is just repetition to be honest as long as you have good form you should be ok. Ballhandling is pretty much the same but as a point guard I would really study how to run pick and rolls, so you can make the correct reads.
-
Who's your favorite to come out of the big 10 this season?
... and how come you arent getting any playing time dude? -
Conley's been gettin' PT... and putting up good numbers.
I think he had 10 points and 9 assists in 22 minutes last week. And he had 6 and 6 last night in 18. That's damn good for a rookie only a few games into the season. -
Ohio State!
-
they got that new european center now, kosta koufos.... he's suppose to be in the top 5 of the nba class of 2009
what do you think about him? -
Get Eric and Daequan on Yardbarker. Then you got Team Yardbarker. You, Greg and Josh are already here.
-
Hey Mike, do you still speak to your former teammates ?
-
Yes I speak with them all the time, they follow my games and I follow theirs.
-
Trying to get Ron Lewis in the "YARD"
-
Yea, I'm worried about the Colts too... As soon as I saw Freeney go down, I KNEW it was something bad. The way he fell just didn't look right. We're going to have a tough time finding somebody to fill in for him. Our defense was getting NASTY. Hopefully, everybody else can get healthy by playoff time.
EJ is definitely going to have a BIG season. I don't understand how people are sleeping on him. I think he's the best perimeter player in college basketball. Like Lupe Fiasco said... He'll just have to "Backflip on the same matress they slept on him on". That AAU team was amazing. The most amazing thing is three of the players are from the Indianapolis Metro area and in the NBA (Soon to be four with Gordon)! It's good to see Nap Town representing.
My question... How are you dealing with not being the starter or playing a lot of minutes for the first time in your whole basketball career?
-
I don't really worry about it much to be honest. I feel eventually if I keep working hard I will get my chance. Our practices are my games.
-
Hey Conley,
What's your favorite move to use when breaking down a defender or trying to beat him? -
Hesitation dribble or a in and out.
-
Grayson? Isn't that The Professor on the And 1 tour? By the way, I am still working on that dribbling a ball on a string...
-
So what team do you think Kobe will go to?
-
I don't think he will go anywhere this year.
-
I got a question for you - whats the move that you rely on the most offensively? For example, I have a tendency to drop step, go right a dribble or two, stop, half spin to my left then spin back to my right and take the shot. I noticed I do it in every single game I play. Have you got an "overused" move or something you noticed you do in every game?
-
Probably a hesitation.
-
Any predictions for how many seasons Gordon will hang at IU? The boys in Bloomington need him more than more year to bring the program back!
-
Not sure it probably depends on how well he plays.
-
What I can't believe is how 2 but should have been 3 high school POY came out of the same conference. I saw you play at NU while you were still at LN and you tore up Scheyer
-
hey this isnt about the NBA but I see you have a xbox live name. what are some of the games u play?
-
I play Halo 3 but now I'm on Call of Duty 4.
-
Im addicted to that game right now
-
MIKE CONLEY! i love you! you are amazing and i wish you would have stuck with the buckeyes for one more year... because im going to their games this year. doyou guys play the cavs this year in cleveland? if so i am going to be there!
-
Hey Mike,
Many people compare you to Tony Parker and some have said TJ Ford, but who do you feel you play most like, in your own way? -
I really don't compare myself to anyone. But while in college I always watched film on Tony Parker and Steve Nash.
-
yea so we all know you have deep love for the game....but is there anything you miss doing that you used to be able to do?? Do you miss Indy at all?
-
I can't think of anything at the moment, but I do miss Indianapolis.
-
what do you think is the coolest thing you've purchased is since becoming a professional athlete? you drive a sweet car?
-
It would probably be a nice entertainment center from best buy that I use to play videogames on and watch movies.
-
Mike,
What is your favorite thing about playing in the NBA and being a pro-athlete?
Does it weird you out that people you've never met recognize you? Any funny stories about that? How do you like being famous? -
My favorite thing about playing in the NBA is that unlike college/hs when you have a bad game or lose a game by the time you really start to think about it you're on a plane to another game. My favorite thing about being a pro athlete is probably the different types of people you get to meet.
A few weeks after I was drafted I moved in with my cousin in Memphis. We would go bowling all the time and one day after a few games a young lady came up to me and said "Has anyone ever told you, you look like Mike Conley Jr". I replied "Yes, my mom ". She then says "you're not Mike Conley, let me see some I.D".
I normally keep a low profile, I don't really go out much especially during the season and when I do most people don't know its me. That of course is more difficult to do in Indy and especially Columbus. -
Thanks for answering my questions. :-)
So, is playing professional basketball your dream job? If you weren't a professional basketball player, what other profession would you like to try? -
Hey Mike -- whats your breakdown of the OSU team this year? Do you still keep in contact with Coach Matta?
-
Guys, don't bother asking Mike to play with you on the 360, he won't. Mike we aren't nuts or anything man just want to play.
-
a man did you see daequan sh*t on james posey that joint was so funny dog i got mad hype
-
o man that was NASTY
-
Yea I saw it, Edmond showed it to me. Daequan loves to dunk on people in November I guess, I remember the dunk he had on Danny Green during the UNC game last year.
-
Here's the video. Niiiiice.
-
PS: First replay doesn't do it justice; gotta watch numbers two and three.
-
hahahaha.. wow, I got to admit that dunk was crazy though... James Posey.... what a nightmare.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4loQDKqghU -
Mike, how do you feel about Greg Odens cursing? IM CERTAINLY NOT HAPPY WITH IT :(.
Bad Greg... -
what's your rank on the Halo 3 leaderboard?
-
i just want to comment and say that people shouldnt be worried about the colts, their three last games haven't been the greatest but they won today. They are hitting a couple bumps but they will bounce right back. Peyton is really reliable...
-
Hey Mike,
I'm finishing up my last year of high school. I'm starting the the point guard position and playing on varsity for my BROTHER.lol. My game is pretty nice (not trying to sound cocky at all), and I want to play on the collegiant level when I graduate. I live in Washington state and i kind of want to go to U-Dub. My question is what type of advice would you give a point guard for this upcoming season im going into. Oh yeah, this is my first year at this school and I just moved here from Detroit Michigan for a better look at life. So yeah, I'm out here with a new team, I'm fitting in with the team good. I don't feel any negativity from the guys because my bro brought me here to play for him and I happen to be starting.lol. But I just was wondering if you have some advice for me.
-Thankz man.
-
I would just say work hard. When I was in HS I was at the gym at 6 am every morning for a workout. Also watch tape on how to use ball screens.
-
Aight man. Good look. I been in the gym in the mornings too. Ima check out that footage too man.
-
yea i agree with the above comments about Dae...that was crazy! But I have another question for you. What do you think of EJ? You ever going to try and make an OSU vs. IU game??
-
I think EJ will lead the B10 in scoring this year. The funny thing is none of us are really surprised at what any of our other teammates are doing. We've all been playing with/against each other since grade school. I know EJ will have a good year this year, just as he probably figured me, daequan, and greg would have a good year at OSU.
-
Yo Mike, I forgot to ask... I was watching the draft again, and when they drafted you.. I heard one of the announcers say " Mike Conley's playing style reminds me of Tony Parkers ".. That's a pretty nice comparison. What do you think about it? Do you think your style is somewhat like his?
-
Hey Mike are you getting my game invites on the 360? Viper 2762. HOLLA!

if ya think of it, tell oden and cook i said hey...thanks...later man -
Hey Mike I saw in the Dispatch that you are hurt. So sorry--hope you heal quickly but DON'T rush it! I once saw an article that quoted Eddie George as saying something like "An athlete needs to do 3 things and all are critical: good nutrition, working out, and rest." It took him a while to figure out how important rest was. So protect your rest, hang in there and you'll be fine!
-
hEY Mike,
I've got you on my fantasy team right now. Your sittin on the bench, obviously, especially now that you've got the sore shoulder. But I really like to have at least 1 rookie on my team. Obviously, your minutes have been limited, but it seems like when you do get playing time, you're putting up great stats, relative to your time on the court. I dropped Belinelli and Acie Law for vets, but I've been sticking with you thus far. What do you think? Should I hold on to you for a while, or do you think that its going to take a little bit until you get those solid minutes on the court, post-recovery? No doubt, you're going to be a great fantasy player in years to come. Anyway, good luck with the recovery, -
Mike,
I was so upset to hear about your shoulder--I hope you get well soon! I'll definitely be praying for you.
Is there anyone on the team that you feel you have made really good friends with? A lot of people are worried about how the team's chemistry is coming together so far.
Good luck with your rehab! Starting in December I'm gonna be sitting under the goal on yall's side of the court, so maybe I'll see you there! I'm bringing my little nephews to Autograph Alley on Saturday and they really want to meet you, so I hope you'll be around.
