Ryan Garcia tests negative for second metabolite; Ostarine test from B-Sample will be held on May 22
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Superstar Ryan Garcia is the undisputed disruptor of the boxing sphere right now. If the eventful spring of controversies had to have a name – it would be Garcia. According to a letter from ESPN, Ryan Garcia requested the analysis of his B-sample drug testing pool this Monday. Boxing insider Dan Rafael reported that Garcia is clear of 19-Norandrosterone metabolite; now ‘King Ry’ is out to prove his innocence once and for all.

On the footfall of his questionable social media antics, Ryan Garcia defeated WBC super-lightweight champ  Devin Haney . However, he caught blame for doping violations in his DAZN Exclusive pay-per-view (PPV) headliner. In his IG Live with influencer-boxer Jake Paul, he already mentioned sending for B-sample testing. Some early reports had hinted at legitimate traces of Ostarine in his blood work. The B-Sample will be tested on May 22, when Garcia’s representative will closely administer the test.

However, Garcia refuted such claims. He put forward that it’d make no sense to go for a drug testing on the day before and fight day, knowing scrutiny would be high. He also drew attention to the fact that the controversial Victor Conte heads the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA). Garcia called upon Conte’s connection with Devin Haney, who is sponsored by SNAC, which Conte owns.

VADA provided the newsletter to ESPN, claiming the fallout. Garcia had previously posted snaps of his tests on social handles, but his reputation as of late did not ally a lot of support. Plus, ‘King Ry’ claiming to fight Haney while high, despite bearing PED claims, did not gain any favors. Now that this has come to light, perceptions could see an overhaul. He tests for Ostarine on May 22.

Ryan Garcia pleads innocence after the news of passing PED test broke

A positive test of PED usage tainted Ryan Garcia’s win over Devin Haney. Keeping an “unstable” narrative alive, Garcia proved himself quite the showman. He consequently wobbled down Haney and outpointed him to a decision loss (115-109, 114-110, and 112-112). However, after the win, there were reports of adverse findings in his A-sample for the performance-enhancing drug Ostarine. Funnily enough, this was the day before and the day of his upset win over Devin Haney.

Haney did not waste any time to diss the rival, even snubbing a chance at a rematch. Garcia (25-1, 20 KO) had come 3.2lbs over his 140-pound weight limit. Haney thus kept hold of his WBC super-lightweight strap despite the loss; he’s not eager to leave that to chance yet again. Consequently, a second metabolite tested positive from Garcia’s sample other than Ostarine.

With Garcia’s A-sample screening false positive for 19-Norandrosterone, attorney Darin Chavez chaffed at the “billionth of a gram range” discrepancy. As such, Boxing insider Dan Rafael reported Garcia to be in the clear with new tests not confirming the presence of 19-Norandrosterone.

Here’s what Ryan Garcia says now:

Garcia has requested that his B-sample be tested, but the results will not be known until May 22nd. Meanwhile, Garcia continues to claim foul play on what has transpired so far with his VADA testing. Only time will tell if Garcia comes out clean in the entire ordeal.
