Report: ‘All signs point’ for Nick Sirianni to return to Philadelphia Eagles in 2024

It looks like Nick Sirianni will stay as the Philadelphia Eagles head coach in 2024, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

There were questions about Sirianni’s job security after a 10-1 start this season. That’s because it ended in a collapse with the Eagles losing six of seven games, including an NFC Wild Card game against the Tampa Bay Bucs.

But despite that, Sirianni is likely back for his fourth season in Philly.

“The Eagles lost on Monday night and here we are on Sunday, midday, late morning, and he’s still the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles,” Schefter said on SportsCenter. “All signs right now point to Nick Sirianni being back. Now, you never know if these talks all of a sudden, could collapse and they could evolve and all of a sudden, Jeffrey Lurie wants to make a change, but there’s been no sign to date that anything’s gonna happen with Nick Sirianni. 

“Nobody wants to say anything. Everybody’s guarded about the particular situation, protecting the whole thing but the fact that matters right now it appears, and I use the word appears because these things can change, it appears that he’s tracking to be back this year.”

Schefter noted changes are coming, should Sirianni be back in Philadelphia.

“There will be changes especially on the defensive side of the football with the coaching staff. But I think at this point, it would be a surprise if something were to happen with Nick Sirianni. Not saying can’t, because there could always be a surprise for right now. It will be a surprise if he’s not back as the Eagles head coach.”

The defensive end of things was wild for Eagles’ fans. Sean DeSai was demoted from his DC position and Matt Patricia became the de facto defensive coordinator in the final quarter of the regular season.

The defense saw no improvements and in fact, you could argue it got worse. The lackluster approach from Sirianni’s offense wasn’t a good sign either.

Offensive coordinator Brian Johnson received criticism and it remains to be seen if he’ll be back in 2024. Johnson received numerous head coaching interviews this cycle.

Sirianni is 34-17 in three seasons with the Eagles and has a 2-3 playoff record. He’s led Philadelphia to the playoffs each season of his tenure, including Super Bowl LVII last year.

Philadelphia lost 38-35 to the Kansas City Chiefs, putting 2023 as a boom or bust year for the Eagles.
